Parish School of Religion (PSR)

We want to help you share the love of Christ with your child(ren)! Growing in faith means living a life centered on Christ, through active participation in Sunday liturgy (Mass), the sacraments, and generous service to others. The Church of the Gesu is committed to providing the best possible faith formation experiences for your child. Children with strong faith and values do better in school and have happier home lives. We offer a variety of programs to support parents in their role as the primary educators in the ways of our Catholic faith.

Vacation Bible School

One of the busiest weeks of the year here at Gesu is our weeklong extravaganza of creative fun and learning known as Vacation Bible School, (VBS). Children from 4 years to 4th grade sing and dance about Jesus, learn and act out Bible stories, construct Christian-themed crafts, and engage in thematic play, all while being warmly encouraged as children of a loving Father! You won’t want to miss a moment of our annual summer program, guided by a team of volunteers who help to creatively combine learning about God with good, old-fashioned fun! For more information, email Mary von Carlowitz at

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-like approach to the faith formation of young children, starting with ages 3-6. In CGS, the child’s religious life is a shared experience with a trained catechist in weekly sessions in a shared space called the Atrium. Through CGS, it is the hope that children will come to know Jesus, the Mass, embrace the sacred and grow in their overall faith formation. Sessions will begin in September, in the school chapel, on Sundays from 9:15-11:15 am. Spaces are limited to the first 15 and registration will be closed when we reach capacity, at which point you will be put on a waiting list. For more information, email Mary von Carlowitz at

PSR Grades Pre-K to Grade 5

The Gesu PSR program serves to support parents in the spiritual development and faith formation of their children who attend private and public schools by offering religious instruction and spiritual development. Children in grades PreK-5 gather at Gesu School from 10:00-11:15 am on Sunday mornings. Classes are periodically supplemented by family programs and intergenerational gatherings that foster both parental involvement and a connection with our faith community. For more information, email Mary von Carlowitz at

PSR Home Schooling Grades 1 to 8

Under certain circumstances, this PSR option offers parents the opportunity to work with their children at home as the primary teachers of the Catholic faith. Parents are responsible for covering all of the textbook material and discussing the topics with their children, on a weekly basis (following closely, the PSR calendar year/curriculum), as they learn their grade-level Catholic social teachings and catechism. Families that choose to participate in this program are still expected to participate in all family-centered PSR Intergenerational events and grade level activities throughout the year, in order to foster a connection with our parish community. PSR High School

It is the mission of our high school PSR program to lead teens closer to Christ through the teachings of Christ and His Church and through the experience of being loved and accepted. High School PSR meets on Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:10 am in Gesu School for those teens that are not enrolled in a Catholic high school. This secondary/high school catechetical program follows a four year, rotating curriculum which addresses Christian morality, God and Religion, Jesus and Christianity and finally, the Catholic Church and what it means to be “Catholic” in our world, witnessing to the gospel values. Every teen that wishes to be Confirmed, must be enrolled in either a Catholic high school or Gesu’s High School PSR program. For more information, email Mary von Carlowitz at

Family Catechesis

Growing in faith means living a life centered on Christ through active participation in the Sunday liturgy, the sacraments and generous service to others. Engaging entire families to form children into lifelong disciples requires hands-on ministerial work in the form of Family Catechesis. New to the Church of the Gesu, this upcoming Catechetical year, Family Catechesis will combine parish-based group meetings with the entire family (grades preK-8th grade as well as parent/s), the first Sunday of each month from 10:00-11:15 am (October through May) and grade specific instruction by trained catechists with at-home sessions for the remaining 3 weeks of each month, guided by parents. On-line and support materials will be available for each family with a concentration for each child at their own grade level. If you feel that this type of faith-based learning is best for your family and you are committed to sharing the faith formation at home, then Family Catechesis is the right program for you and your family! For more information, email Mary von Carlowitz at
